“We want to send a very strong message on violence against women because this is a violation of the human rights of women and girls.”
-Marjon Kamara, Representative of Liberia to the United Nation and Chair of the 57th Annual UN Commission on the Status of Women
This week we celebrate International Women’s Day. The official United Nations theme for International Women’s Day 2013 is “A promise is a promise: Time for action to end violence against women.”
To honor International Women’s Day, representatives from the United Nations and NGOs, including World Vision, are gathering for the 57th annual Commission on the Status of Women to discuss the issue of violence against Women and girls. Strong Women, Strong World and our Channels of Hope for Gender Program will be highlighted as effective programs that are transforming communities and the way that women and girls are treated.
