Mark your calendar! This year is the second International Day of the Girl which seeks to better girls’ lives, providing an opportunity for them to show leadership and reach their full potential. Join us on October 11, 2013 to celebrate the opportunity and potential for girls.
We invite you to commemorate this day in several different ways:
– Sponsor a girl in need. Sponsorship makes a long-term investment in the life of a girl, her family, and her community, providing greater access to life-giving basics like nutritious food, clean water, medical care, and education, the foundation for a future of independence and hope.
– Host an event to watch the ground-breaking film “Girl Rising”. Your event can help raise awareness of the importance of investing in the lives of girls around the world.
– Watch “India: The Missing Girls”, a PBS/Frontline World short film, online for free. This 15 minute film explores the practice and repercussions of female feticide. The U.K.-based medical journal, The Lancet, reports that about 500,000 female fetuses, or one in twenty five, are selectively aborted each year across India.
