Last week, we were privileged to spend some time in Kansas City, MO at the Mothers of Preschoolers (MOPS) annual conference. More than 3,000 moms came together from the United States, and as far as Brazil and Ireland, because they believe that mothers are world influencers. “We are moms, and we believe that better moms make a better world.”   We agree.

Sierra Leone has been called one of the worst places in the world to be a mother. Nearly one out of every five children will not live to see their fifth birthday and nearly 40 percent of children under five are chronically malnourished. This past week we met hundreds of MOPS who wanted to take action so that all children can live beyond five.

Partnering with World Vision’s Strong Women, Strong World campaign, we are giving mothers the tools they need to support other mothers and speak out for child health. Over this next year, MOPS will be coming together to connect with mothers in the Pejeh-Sowa area of Sierra Leone.

At the MOPS conference, hundreds wrote prayers and notes of encouragement to mothers in this area to let them know they are not alone. To further support the community, MOPS will be advocating for the Water for the World Act and financially supporting prenatal care, treatments for acute child malnutrition and health care worker training.

If you are a member of a MOPS group, or any mother who would like to be involved, leave a message in the comments below.  We know that together, moms have the power to help every child see their fifth birthday and beyond.
