What happens when like-minded women come together in a world-class city? On November 30th over 200 people, including 30 Women of Vision, gathered at the Strong Women, Strong World Luncheon in New York City commemorating World AIDS Day with a focus on “Women and Water.” Partners from the Charlotte, Fairfield, New Jersey and New York chapters heard from women making outstanding contributions in the fight to eradicate poverty worldwide:
- – UN Ambassador Melanne Verveer cast a powerful vision for empowering women and girls
- – Mercy Niwe shared her touching personal story about the struggles girls face in the developing world
- – Actress Patricia Heaton encouraged all of us to use our position of influence (we all have one!) to give back, empower and make a difference
- – Laserex Cancer Foundation Founder and President, Dana Dornsife, was honored for her commitment to fund clean water, sanitation and hygiene projects in Africa. Dana has modeled and encouraged all of us to find our passion and live out our philanthropic faith, utilizing our time, talent and treasures.
Let’s continue to educate ourselves to learn about how we might better fight for women’s rights and empowerment. See the recent articles in the Huffington Post and Sojourners about the event and plan to attend next year’s luncheon, December 6, 2013!
