Voting Today on Trafficking Victims Protection Act!

Today, the Senate will be voting on adding amendment #21, the Trafficking Victims Protection Act, to the Violence Against Women Act and finalizing the bill.  Strong Women, Strong World advocates have been working endlessly to pass this important legislation.  We will be watching live and updating you as it happens.  You can check back here throughout the day or follow Strong Women, Strong World on twitter!

Update at 8:40am PST: The Senate is currently voting on amendment #21 that would add the Trafficking Victims Protection Act to the Violence Against Women’s Act.

Update at 8:56am PST: The Senate has voted in the affirmative, 93-5, to add Senator Leahy’s amendment #21 to the Violence Against Women Act!  The Next Step is to wait for the Senate vote on the complete Violence Against Women Act, which now includes S.1301 from the previous congress!

Update: Senate is breaking for committee meetings until 11:15am PST.  When they return they will vote on additional amendments to the Violence Against Women Act and vote on the complete bill

Update at 11:45am PST: The Senate floor is now voting on the final passage of the Violence Against Women Act (s. 47)

Update 11:57am PST: With a vote of 78-22, the Senate passed the Violence Against Women Act (s.47) which now includes the TVPRA!

Our next step is to ask the House of Representatives to pass the Senate version of the Violence Against Women Act.  Stay tuned!
